Getting Started

The firsts step is to read through my website and decide if you think I may be a good fit for you. If something I have written resonates with you, or if the approaches to counselling sounds like it might be what you need, I encourage you to get in touch!

The second step is to book an initial 15 minute free phone consultation call with me. Simply click the green button that says "Get Started Now" and choose an open time on my schedule that works for you. I will call you at exactly that time. You can also get in touch on the contact page and we can set up a time to chat.

In this 15 minute phone consultation, you can ask me any questions you might have about my background and approach, and share with me a brief description of what you're seeking from counselling. On this call, we will be deciding if we believe we are a good fit to work together. If we decide that it seems like a good fit, the next step is to find a date and time for your first appointment.

When we schedule the first session, you will be sent the short intake and consent forms to fill out and sign (all online through the Jane App).

What You Need to Know

Fees

Our various clinicians have rates that range from $135 - $200 per individual session

Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes long.

The First Session

During the first session, I’ll go over the limits of confidentiality with you and you can ask any questions you have about the paperwork. I will begin by asking you to tell me about what led you to seek counselling at this time. This is a time for you to begin to tell your story, for you to get a sense of what it is like to be with me in person, and for me to learn about you, your struggles, and goals. During the first 2-3 sessions, I ask specific intake questions about your general health, how you spend your time, your history, and other basic details to get an understanding of you.

Frequency of Therapy Sessions

I generally work with a once-per-week therapy model because this is what research tells us will give you the best results. Weekly therapy provides the continuity that allows us to form a strong working relationship, for you to feel supported between sessions, and for us to actively work together toward your goals — especially at the beginning of our therapeutic relationship. Bi-weekly is also supported by the research.

After a course of regular sessions and when you start feeling better and more empowered, you may want to come back for check-ins as needed, or return to regular sessions when you have a new goal you want to work towards.

Cancellation Policy

Each session has been specifically reserved for you, therefore I require one week's notice for cancellations or rescheduling. If you cancel your appointment with less than one week's notice, you are responsible for the full appointment fee, unless you are able to reschedule to another available appointment within the same calendar week.

My schedule is always full in order to meet the demand and it is important to me to fill each session time with assisting another person in their struggle to feel better. The full fee for missed appointments or late cancellations will be charged to your credit card on file. I’ll reschedule an appointment for you as soon as possible.

Payment

Payment is due at each session. I accept cash, cheque, or credit card payment through my secure online system, Janeapp or e-transfer prior to our session.

I require each client to place a credit card on their file for payment purposes. I charge your card at the end of each session, and send you the receipt via email, which you can then submit to your extended health benefits, if applicable.

If you are an existing client but have not worked with me in the last 3 months, you will be charged my current fee unless arranged otherwise.
